OSHA Reminds New Jersey Firms About Fall Protection Following Incidents 2012-05-31 |
The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently issued a statement for construction firms in New Jersey after recent workplace tragedies.
The federal government released a call to action after there were four separate accidents in northern New Jersey, at work sites in Madison, Clifton, Bayonne and Secaucus. The firm said that had the proper precautions been taken, the incidents may have never occurred at all. OSHA's regional administrator in New York, Robert Kulick, said the accident should serve as a wake-up call for businesses in the state. He said that firms needed to be proactive as well.
"This is a call to action for every contractor in the state," says Kulick in a statement released by the agency. "These incidents are tragic reminders of the dangers posed to workers when they are not adequately protected from fall hazards."
Earlier in May, OSHA fined Pennsylvania-based Quality Stone Veneer $154,000 for violating safety standards, which included fall hazards and several other issues that put workers at risk.
