OSHA Fines Detroit Firm $64,400 2012-06-06 |
Detroit-based Brown Campbell company was recently fined $64,400 by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The federal government's safety agency cited the company for a total of 19 health and safety violations, after OSHArepresentatives found that the steel firm had not protected employees from getting injured while on the job. The December 5, 2011, investigation found that the firm failed to give clothing that protected workers from metal sparks, hadn't implemented protective welding screens and other issues.
"Brown-Campbell has a responsibility to protect the health of its employees by providing and ensuring workers wear protective clothing and to provide training on known hazards in the workplace," said Howard Eberts, director of OSHA's Cleveland area office. "Employers who are cited for repeat violations demonstrate a lack of commitment to employee safety and health."
OSHA has been looking into ways to make workplaces around the country safer by hosting meetings. On June 25, the agency will host a gathering to help states formulate safety plans that adhere to federal requirements.
