OSHA Fines MAPP Construction and Major Plumbing 2012-07-09 |
Two Florida companies recently came to the attention of the federal government’s safety agency due to unsafe working conditions.
MAPP Construction and Major Plumbing were fined $63,000 and $56,000 respectively after an accident occurred at a worksite in Bradenton. The incident occurred when employees installing grease traps found themselves trapped by a collapsed excavation sidewalk, resulting in injuries. Violations discovered included failing to train employees on how to use equipment and several other issues.
The local OSHA leadership said that workers needed to be protected from similar mishaps in order to reduce risks and ensure a safe environment is created.
"These employers knew the excavation was not safe and required cave-in protection but failed to take proper action to prevent the worker from being injured," said Les Grove, OSHA's area director in Tampa.
In other parts of the Sunshine State, OSHA has been handing out fines as well. Earlier this year, the agency fined Bennett Electrical Services $50,000 after a worker was hurt while on the job.
