CSA 2010 is perhaps the most comprehensive regulatory evaluation program for any carrier. Under this initiative, drivers' actions will impact their safety performance evaluation along with the safety ratings of their employer. This program Combines information from each of the seven BASIC’s, and focuses on the “high consequence”/”high severity-weighted” violations. It also shows drivers why they must practice compliance with the driving and safety regulations, for the benefit of their careers and their company. The topics covered are:
  • Unsafe Driving - Addresses dangerous or careless operation of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs).
  • Fatigued Driving - FMCSR Parts 392 and 395 are the regulatory references for the video. Focuses on hours-of-service violations and their contribution to driver fatigue.
  • Driver Fitness - Includes information on operation of a CMV by drivers who are unfit to operate a CMV due to lack of training, experience, or medical qualification.
  • Controlled Substance Alcohol - Addresses operating a CMV while impaired due to alcohol, illegal drugs, and misuse of prescription or over-the-counter medications.
  • Vehicle Maintenance- Focuses on CMV failure due to improper or inadequate maintenance.
  • Cargo Related- Discusses shifting loads, spilled or dropped cargo, and unsafe handling of hazardous materials.
  • Crash Indicator - Features data developed from law enforcement crash reports, crashes reported by the carrier, and discovery during on-site investigations.
