Company Info: History Preview On-line Must-See 4 min Meeting Opener

A woman-owned business started by Ms. Billie Straub, B.S., MEd, and Mr. Robert Losee, in 1981, The Training Network (originally called Long Island Productions) has evolved from making and selling one 16-millimeter film on Safety Awareness Attitudes to a company with over 2,500 products on more than 100 OSHA, workplace safety and Human Resource training topics. Having migrated with its customers from 16-millimeter film to Betamax, to VHS tapes, DVDs and CD-ROMs, The Training Network provides training material in almost any format. And, currently, the company is pursuing the ability to offer every technology-based format available.

Ms. Straub and Mr. Losee made an early strategic transition from producing programs to distributing programs from brand-name producers. Over 30 producers support the business model. The Training Network model allows the producers to focus and invest in product content while The Training Network assumes the marketing and sales functions, with their associated costs.

As you can see by the timeline to the right, the progression of the product lines, naturally, follows the history of introductions and revisions to OSHA regulations and HR legislation, as well as the adoption of HR and corporate best practices (e.g., effective communication skills, time management and team building).
