OSHA Fines Loveland Products 2012-01-25 |
The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently fined a Nebraska-based company after it failed to handle chemicals correctly.
The federal government's safety agency fined Loveland Products $148,000 for 25 safety violations after an inspection was performed in conjunction with its Site-Specific Program. The inspectors found that the company hadn't performed a proper mechanical integrity program for the system, had conducted inappropriate inspections and did not know other safety requirements.
"OSHA has a stringent process safety management standard, and it is imperative that employers rigorously update and properly maintain each element of the process to minimize hazards, and provide a safe and healthful workplace for employees," said Charles E. Adkins, OSHA's regional administrator in Kansas City, Missouri. "OSHA is committedto protecting workers and educating employers about the risks involved with exposure to hazardous chemicals."
OSHA has been handing out fines to many companies that fail to comply with regulations. Its Site-Specific programs seek to hold industries with histories of injuries more accountable and prevent injury or death.
