OSHA Taking Nominations for Federal Advisory Council on Occupational Safety and Health
2012-07-05
The federal government's workplace safety agency recently made headlines after it announced it was looking for possible candidates for Federal Advisory Council on Occupational Safety and Health (FACOSH).

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration stated that it would be looking for a total of 16 candidates for the committee to help the agency form safety standards. The goal is to reduce the total number of incidents that occur in a given year.

"FACOSH advises the Secretary of Labor on matters relating to the occupational safety and health of federal employees," OSHA said in a statement. "This includes providing assistance to the Secretary and OSHA in an effort to reduce and keep to a minimum the number and severity of injuries and illnesses in the federal workforce."

Once a person is name to an OSHA committee, he or she will be able totake part in meetings throughout the year. In February, the Maritime Advisory Committee for Occupational Safety and Health held a meeting in Washington, D.C., where industry experts discussed safety precautions.
