New OSHA Crane Safety Regulation Effective November 8th!

OSHA has updated its decades old crane safety standard with new rules addressing the use of cranes and derricks in construction. This change affects employees in a wide range of industries such as construction, crane rental businesses and crane certification organizations.

The new rule, which takes effect November 8, 2010, is designed to prevent crane-related fatalities, including electrocution, crushed-by/struck-by incidents during assembly/disassembly, collapses, and overturns. It also establishes requirements for ground conditions and crane operator certification, as well as the movement, set-up and use of cranes around power lines.

Training Network has new productions in the works that include training on the new requirements found in OSHA’s regulation.  We will have both a construction and general industry version of Crane Safety and Rigging Safety videos.  These are now available for pre-order, with shipment due in late October.  To place your order now use the link below or call us at 800-397-5215.

Updated Crane Safety Training Videos

Cranes, hoists, slings and lifts are used in construction and in many manufacturing and warehouse operations.    While there are many different types of cranes such as overhead cranes, mobile cranes, and telescoping cranes, they all have the ability to make many jobs much easier by being able to lift enormous weight.   But they also share the potential for disaster when they are not operated safely.   This is why providing crane safety training for your operators is essential.

Crane-related accidents can often be deadly, due to the cumbersome and heavy loads that are lifted. A small miscalculation or a brief moment of inattention, and tragedy could strike. Once a load falls not much can be done to stop it, and there is little time for people to move safely out of the way. A coworker could be injured, or expensive equipment could be damaged or destroyed... even the crane itself.

It is estimated that over 90% of crane-related accidents are caused by human error. This is why crane safety training is so important.   With proper crane safety training, costly accidents and injuries can be avoided.

By learning all aspects of crane safety, employees can steer clear of situations that may place them and their coworkers in danger.
